Bring a style reference and explain your routine

Choose a few photographs that show the length and style you like. Explain what appeals to you about them, whether you prefer more or less density, and what you want to keep about your current look. A reference starts a conversation; it does not guarantee an identical result.

Discuss work, exercise, how often you like to style your hair and how much time you want to spend on upkeep. Ask which choices are practical for the system being considered.

Confirm the support included before your visit

The HLC self-fit package costs £450 and includes one system or wig and a kit. Ask what is in the kit, which instructions are supplied and what help is available if you are unsure about fitting at home.

The £500 single-system option and £900 annual offer have different system allowances. Confirm fitting and cutting fees separately rather than assuming that the purchase price includes every appointment. If you already have a system from another provider, explain that before travelling.

Leave with a care plan you understand

• Which products are suitable for this particular system?
• What should you do at home and what should the fitter handle?
• How should you arrange cutting, styling or a change in fit?
• Who should you contact if you have a question?
• When should you discuss the next maintenance visit?
