Request the prescription through the appropriate route

The NHS repeat-prescription guide explains that you can usually request repeats through the NHS App, GP online services or your GP surgery. It advises requesting up to five working days before you need the medicine. Repeat dispensing may have different arrangements agreed with your GP.

Check which route your surgery uses and what happens if a review is due. If something has changed about your medicine, ask the prescriber or pharmacy team instead of guessing which request to submit.

Choose the pharmacy and check delivery arrangements

Letter Box Pharmacy offers pharmacy nomination and a free NHS prescription-delivery service. Usual NHS prescription charges still apply unless you are exempt. Confirm the delivery arrangements for your own prescription with the team.

Keep your address and contact details current, particularly after moving home. Ask how you will know that the pharmacy has received the prescription and how to raise a question about dispensing or delivery.

Make your medicine enquiry easy to follow

When calling, have the medicine name and the date of your request available. Explain whether the question is about GP approval, pharmacy receipt, collection or delivery. The team can then identify which stage needs attention.

  • Has the prescription reached the pharmacy?
  • Are there any details the team needs from you?
  • How should you arrange collection or delivery?
  • Who should you contact if a review or new prescription is required?

A clinic consultation does not replace the usual repeat-prescription process, even when the services share a local pharmacy contact.
